PYC during COVID-19 quarantine

Hi wonderful PYC family,

This is our very first blog-post ever. The past couple of weeks have been a complete whirlwind of emotions and readjustments and now when the dust is starting to settle we are trying to figure out all the ways we can be of service to our community.

We’ve been talking about blogging for a very long time, but the fact that it needed to take a pandemic for us to really settle down and have time to think and write is actually quite hilarious. You know us, just running from class to class from place to place and never fully having time to be in one place, in one mindset at the same time. Even though that is how we like things to be, these past couple of weeks have offered reflection for all three of us.

We have been able to finish lots of projects, clean up and finish jobs in the Rejskova studio and started this filming project to bring all the yoga to you guys. But more importantly, we (It’s Lisa writing), have been able to find time for reflection, time with our families, and to be honest, it has been absolutely wonderful!

Personally, I have been able to have my husband home for the first time in nearly a year, we have started to build a little garden on our terrace, I have cooked and baked with my 3-year old and I’ve been able to stop and watch as my 5-month old is slowly starting to crawl.

For us, both the Wakenshaws and the PYC ladies, this quarantine has both given us tremendous stress about the future, about spreading a virus, about social interaction, but more importantly it has given us time to slow down and reflect and it has been a good thing so far. I don’t want to undermine anything with this post, I just want to encourage you all, even if we find ourselves in an emotional rollercoaster at the moment, to use this time in isolation to spend with the people you love the most (IRL if you live with them, or on plenty of phone-calls and messages if not) and to take a minute. A minute to reflect, maybe rethink a little and find the small things in life that makes you feel wonderful.

Put your devices down (after reading this, of course ;) ), and look around you. Chat to your plants, bake a cake, read a book, meditate. No need to cure cancer or learn a new language, but just be, breathe, and let go of the situations you cannot change, let go of the things that don’t serve you and take it day by day.

And soon enough we will meet again, on our mats and continue this journey of yoga together. Until then, we’ll be here trying to serve you the best that we can from behind our screens. We love you all very much.

Lisa, Alex Betti
