Mizata Standard Time: A Yoga Adventure on El Salvador's Pacific Coast

with Lisa Wakenshaw & Bruce Chung

Casona Tunan, Mizata, El Salvador

October 22-30th, 2027

We couldn’t be more excited to invite you on this adventurous journey together to the exotic & beautiful El Salvador.

Where the tide pulls out and the mountain breathes smoke.

Where the water is warm enough to stay in until your fingers wrinkle, and the trail up the mountain is hot enough to make you earn the swim back down.

Mizata sits at the heart of that, with jungle on one side, waves on the other, and a volcano that sits behind it all, majestic and powerful. Join us for a week on El Salvador's wild Pacific coast, intended to both inspire and ground through the surrounding nature and accompanying practices.

Lisa and Bruce are bringing you to Casona Tunan — a small, boutique hotel with real character, the kind of place that brings its guests closer. Meals that are as nutritious as they are tasty, warm ocean water to wade in, a mountain worth climbing once, and enough free time to explore on your own, or just be by the pool.

This retreat is for the adventurous, the yogi that loves to travel, and anyone who understands that slowing down is a necessity in these times.

About Mizata

A small stretch of Pacific coast where the jungle grows right down to the shoreline and the days move at whatever pace you set them. Black volcanic sand, warm water, dramatic cliffs, palm shade, and just enough life in the village to remind you you're somewhere real.

Spend your morning on the mat, your afternoon in the water or exploring, your evening watching the sun go down into the ocean like it does every night here, unhurried and unbothered.

Mizata isn't polished. That's the point.

Our Retreat

Lisa and Bruce will lead you through a week of practices that mirror the coastline: some sessions strong and dynamic like the surf breaking, others slow enough to connect to the earth below, all practices reconnecting you to self.

The ethos of PYC and Bruce is to have practices that are accessible, educational and connected to the spirit of the practice. All levels are welcome to join us in El Salvador, knowing that the practices are part of a larger whole on this yoga retreat.

In addition to twice daily yoga practices, and a couple of workshops that explore asana and beyond, two excursions are included that show you the beauty of El Salvador.

The Climb

Boots on, and up into El Salvador's volcanic backcountry. We'll hike Volcán Llamatepec — the tallest of El Salvador's 21 volcanoes at 7,850 feet — with the summit looking out over its sulfuring caldera baths and the turquoise waters of Lago Coatepeque below. About 1.5 hours up, an hour back down. Big views, a real climb, and the particular kind of relaxation that only comes after you've earned it.

The Soak

Into the mountains for a day built around Santa Teresa's thermal pools and a volcanic mud bath, then on to Apaneca for cooler air and a stop at Café Albania — coffee, food, and a few outdoor activities if you want them.

One trip up, one trip in — and plenty of days where the only itinerary is a hammock and the tide chart.

There will be good food and like-minded people. Slow mornings, long lunches, and time you've actually carved out for yourself — with nothing mandatory except the coming-together at dinner (and even then, you can opt out. But why would you?)

Come for the practice, with beauty as its backdrop. Stay for the people. Leave sun-kissed and lighter than you arrived.

Accommodation

Home for the week is Casona Tunan — tucked into the coastline, built with character rather than committee. It's not a big anonymous resort; it's a place with a strong sense of where it is.

Traditional Salvadoran style meets a relaxed boutique feel, with the kind of surroundings that make it easy to swing between adventure and doing absolutely nothing. Beyond our programme, the property also offers surfing, spa treatments, horseback riding and more, if you want to fill any of the gaps we've deliberately left open.

And yes — there is a pool, there is sunshine, and there is no shortage of time to use both properly.

For our retreat, you’ll have a choice of three room options, all designed to be comfortable, relaxed and very much in keeping with the warm, rustic character of Casona Tunan:

King Twin Room - Shared

Shared Two twin beds or one double, air conditioning, private bathroom with hot rain shower, premium linens, mini fridge, small bar area. Good for friends, couples, or anyone happy to share both the room and the cost. Sleeps 2
